Wickham Glen - work about to start

Work to create the new cycle ramp in Wickham Glen is about to start. Over the next few days contractors will begin to remove a number of trees along the route of the new ramp and then construction will commence. The contractors will bring materials through Wickham Glen itself and so the area is likely to be very muddy for a while. Once the ramp is built the Council will resurface the footpath with a no more than 2.2m wide 'dust and stone' path. This should improve access for everyone, but keep the natural feel of the area in tact.

Walked though there today. About six or more tree have been marked. Not sure if they are the ones to be felled or the ones to remain.

John - they'll be the ones to be felled I should think.

Just seen the 2.2metre wide stone and gravel footpath. The workman said that is it. Looks alot wider than 2.2 metres to me. More like 3.

The site is a mess. The work has made a mockery of the planning reports that detailed things like how care should be taken to protect the shallow roots of neighbouring trees. A bulldozer is a bulldozer. What else did any body expect? I maintain my original view that this scheme should have been opposed outright. The concessions gained from the Council were minimal. By the way, the same Cycling City are busy planning another monstrosity in Eastville Park. Take a look at the park noticeboards. You have till 18th Feb to comment apparently
