The first signs of spring seem to be showing up in the valley. Greater spotted woodpeckers have been heard drumming, while great tits have been seen carrying nesting material around. Some of the ducks already have paired off along the river too. Snowdrops are also out in the garden, hopefully the first of many flowers to come.

Heard... then saw a Greater Spotted Woodpecker at the east end of Grove Wood today. You often hear them but as they are tricky to spot this was a wonderful moment. The black, white and red plumage looked amazing in the Spring sunshine and really caught my eye as it worked its way along the underside of a long branch. British wildlife is amazing!
